Pamela Morgan & Dr. Shireen Fernandez

Pamela Morgan is a very close friend, a cookbook author and teacher and is famous for the events and parties she co-ordinates.

SC:  Hello Pam, Can you tell our readers more about what you do?
PM:  I am an event planner which means that I plan private parties, corporate and charity events concentrating on the food and table décor.  I have relationships with celebrity chefs and caterers as well as floral, lighting and tent companies, rentals, entertainment and any other vendor who contributes to making an extraordinary event.  I am also a cookbook author. My book, Pamela Morgan’s Flavors was published by Viking.  I write a blog about food, entertaining and traveling called www.flavorsinlove.com.

SC:  What is ‘Flirting with Flavors’?
PM:  It is the name of my cooking school and the philosophy of my classes.  If we allow ourselves to get our flirt on about cooking, we can create the confidence to play in our kitchens and our homes in a way that is total nurturing to ourselves, our lovers and our families.  I show my students how to enjoy everything from grocery shopping to cutting and chopping. and we have such a fun time in our classes. We were dancing with our dish towels the other night.  At the same time, we learn basic cooking skills and techniques using the freshest ingredients to make unique recipes, and we learn how to spice up our lives!!!!

SC:   We went to one of your wonderful cooking classes recently and loved it.  Can you explain how cooking can be sexy?

PM:  Cooking is a sensual art. When you cook, you are using all of your senses… smelling, touching, tasting, seeing and hearing.  It is so sexy to cook with your husband or lover and it creates intimacy and communication. Cooking creates magic!!

SC:   Your friends are some of the most important people in New York. Are their taste buds any different?

PM:  No, I just think they have traveled more extensively and eaten out often and know how good food is supposed to taste.  They have sophisticated their palates so to speak.

SC:  How can we learn to eat healthier?

PM:  Cooking at home with quality ingredients leads to a healthier lifestyle.  When you cook, you know what is going into your food, and you can limit the amount of butter, sugar and oil.  Eating healthfully starts at home and it’s so much tastier than eating at fast food restaurants or ordering out.

SC:  What is the secret of putting on a great event?

PM:  Organization is the key.

SC:   You are as famous in the Hamptons as you are in NYC.  Do you go to parties every night in the summer season there?

PM:  I go out often in the Hamptons, and there are events and dinners every weekend. I also do a lot of event planning myself in the summer for my clients. I love to cook lunch at home in the summers, and then I also will create a few exclusive dinner parties in my home as well. My partner has a tomato, herb and lettuce garden and it is such a joy to pick vegetables right from the garden and cook with them.

SC:  What are your favorite cuisines?

PM:  I love so many…Asian, Vietnamese, Thai, and Mexican.  I just love food that is prepared well with lots of Flavors and organic quality ingredients.

SC:  Can a relative beginner still become a good cook well into their 30’s and 40’s?

PM:  Anyone can become a good cook at any age!!!  It just takes practice like any art.  It’s so much fun to try though, even if you fail, you learn from your mistakes and then you do it better next time. Cooking creates confidence!!

SC:  What message would you like to leave the 20000 members of Society’s Choice?

PM:  Get your flirt on! Get back in the kitchen, because cooking creates confidence and the skill and art of cooking will create magic in your life. Cooking is sensual, sexual and healthy, and I want you to have that in your life.  Cooking is life changing!
