Chevrolet Corvette Stingray

The Chevrolet Corvette C2 was created in 1963 as the second generation of the Corvette Sting Ray introduced under the name. The term “Sting Ray” in the English language called the stingrays . Unlike the successor Corvette C3 , the name was still written with spaces. For the first time it was the Corvette convertible out of the well as a coupe.

Later the legendary “Big Block” V8 engines appeared first time in 1965, initially with 6.5 liters and in 1966 even with 7.0 liters of displacement. These engines showed an enormous torque on and were only governed by the successor, the Corvette C3, surpassed. New were also the turning headlights, which should return in later versions than regular pop-up headlights and only in 2005 with the Corvette C6 disappeared again.

The split rear window of the coupe 1963er C2 gave this the name “Split Window”. The C2 was also the first Corvette without a rigid rear axle, rear independent suspension for the first time one was used. air conditioning and leather seats were new additional cost options. In March 1964, won a C2 Corvette in the GT category at the “12 Hours of Sebring Race.”

It was surprising therefore, that this version was only until 1967 inventory. Then appeared as early as 1968, the successor model, the C3 Corvette.
